Old Fashioned Southern Mac N Cheese
Wisconsin Cheese Meets Classic Southern Cooking
This recipe was submitted by our National Sales Manager, Sonya Leitner, who recently "spiced up" one of her mom's classic recipes using Shullsburg Creamery cheese.
Ingredients:
-
1 ½ bags Noodles (broad no yolk noodles, or any style of noodle you like)
-
1 Stick Salted Butter
-
1 can Cheddar Cheese Soup
-
1 to 1 ½ cups Regular All Purpose Flour
-
8oz Prairie Farms Whole Milk
-
2 cups Shullsburg Creamery Sharp Cheddar, shredded
-
2 cups Shullsburg Creamery Three Pepper Cheddar, shredded
-
Optional - Hot Sauce (add a dash to the mix or use as a topping when eating)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Cook noodles according to package- once cooked and drained, put back in pot and add ½ stick of butter and mix.
- In a separate bowl, melt and mix remaining ½ stick of butter with 8oz of milk, can of soup and 1 cup of flour.
- Mix in 1 cup of shredded Sharp Cheddar and 1 cup of shredded Three Pepper Cheddar.
- Add mixture to pot of noodles and mix well. You may need to add a bit more flour if you prefer a thicker sauce. You may need to add a bit more milk if you prefer a creamier sauce. Optional: add hot sauce. Check for consistency before baking.
- Spray pan and put mixture into pan. Cover with foil and bake for about 40-50 minutes, until dish appears bubbly.
- Once cooked, add the remaining shredded cheese on top and put back in oven, uncovered, to melt the rest of the cheese (approximately 5 minutes.)
- Optional: top with hot sauce.
